Amazon Pink River Dolphins

Have you ever heard of a dolphin that’s pink? Well, this dolphin is. The Amazon Pink River Dolphin (or Boto) is one of the last remaining river dolphins and is highly endangered. In fact, there are only about 1,200 left in the world. There are many reasons they’re endangered, including getting hurt by boats, entangled in fish nets, loss of habitat, dam construction, river contamination, dolphin flesh being used as fish bait, and more. People often ask why Amazon Pink River Dolphins are pink? Actually, they are gray when born and become pink as they get older because their blood vessels are close to their skin. Instead of having a regular dorsal fin, this playful dolphin has a ridge on its back that rises to a hump at about the middle section of its body.
