The Phantom Tollboth by Norton Juster

The Phantom Tollbooth is wonderfully clever with its play on words. Author Norton Juster takes the reader on an amazing adventure. The hero, a young boy, Milo, is transported from his daily routine by a magic tollbooth to the Kingdom of Wisdom, with the help of his companions, Tock the Watchdog and the Humbug he must save princesses Rhyme and Reason.

As the journey continues Milo encounters some great characters, such as the Whether Man and Kakofonous Dischord, Doctor of Dissonance. He also travels to intriguing locations such as the Valley of Sound,Digitopolis, a land ruled by numbers, the Island of Conclusions and ultimately the Mountain of Ignorance.

Armed with the knowledge he has gathered on his journey through the Kingdom, Milo, with his faithful companions, must face down demons!
